Start Here: A Student Guide to Learning at Mohawk College

How Do I Get Ready for Fall?

Everything you need to get started with learning tools, build your digital skills, and find technical support when you need it.

Connect to Mohawk-WiFi on my phone, tablet, and laptop. 

Why? WiFi is free for all students on campus and allows you to access courses, resources, and more. 
 

How? Use your 9 digit MohawkID and password to log in.

Set up Multi-Factor Authentication.

Why? MFA is requires to access Mohawk College tools and applications. This helps protect you and others from security breaches. The College uses Single Sign On (SSO) that allows users to sign in using one set of credentials to multiple independent software systems.

How? Visit the IT webpage and follow the steps to download the Microsoft Authenticator App

Set up Chrome as your browser for Mohawk College work.

Why? Chrome is the browser that supports access to Mohawk College environments and tools. 

How? Visit Google Chrome

Bookmark MyMohawk, MyCanvas and Mohawk Email in Chrome for easy access. 

Why? You will access these sites multiple times a day, and bookmarking them in your browser makes it fast and easy. 

How? Refer to your bookmark options in Chrome. 

Login to MyCanvas and review the resources there. 

Why? Your courses and running grades will be available in MyCanvas, and instructors commonly use MyCanvas to share your course outline, lesson plans, announcements, assignments, and other course information. 


We recommend that you Customize your Dashboard and enable course calendars.

How? Connect to MyCanvas

Bookmark the Digital Skills Student Portal.

Why? It has student resources and a means of contacting Digital Skills support for MS Teams, MyCanvas, etc. 

How? Access the Student Portal

Check my Timetable. 

We recommend: Checking timetables often in the first couple of weeks of classes as they can change on occasion. 

How? Login to MyMohawk > Registration

Login to MS365 and download any tools I may need. 

Why? Microsoft 365 tools are free to all students, and include Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, etc.
 

We recommend: Downloading the MS Teams app to your desktop to support access to important features and improve your user experience of Teams during online classes. 

How? Follow the steps in the Microsoft 365 article

Login to MohawkAPPs through MyMohawk. 

Why? MohawkAPPs supports your access to useful applications when you are not on campus. 

How? Download the apps you need

Contact my program coordinator with any questions related to my startup. 

Why? Program coordinators are there to help you understand what is needed in your program and to offer you support. 

How? Go to the program page on the Mohawk College website, search for your program and scroll to the bottom to locate your coordinator.

Familiarize myself with the supports available to me at the College.

Why? Mohawk College is focused on supporting your success in class and out. Some supports include: The Library, Learning Support Centre, Accessible Learning Services, MSA, Social Inc, student life, Athletics,
