What is Autodesk software?

Autodesk makes a variety of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software required for the fields of architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, and many more. Many of its subscription-based products are available for free to qualified students and staff at Mohawk. To see a full list of software available, visit the Autodesk Education Hub.

How do I get started?

In order to install any Autodesk software, you will need to create an account. Follow the steps below to create and validate an Autodesk account:

Step 1: Creating Your Autodesk Account
  1. Visit the Autodesk Education Hub, link above
  2. Select Get Started
  3. Fill out the required fields for your Education Profile

Note: use your official Mohawk College email eg: firstname.lastname@mohawkcollege.ca

  1. Click on CREATE ACCOUNT to begin the account creation process
  2. Verify your email address
Step 2: Validate your Autodesk Education License
  1. Autodesk product page, then click on Get Educational Access
  2. Choose Student from the dropdown menu
  3. Enter birthdate
  4. Educational Institution information
    1. Choose Canada
    2. Enter Mohawk College's address (Fennell or Stoney Creek Campus)
      1. Choose University/Post - Secondary from the dropdown menu
      2. Type (depending on your campus):
        • Mohawk College (Hamilton, ON)
        • 481 Barton St, Stoney Creek, ON L8E 2L7
      3. Enter website www.mohawkcollege.ca
      4. Enter your start date
      5. Enter your graduation date - choose a date in April of the year you expect to graduate
    3. Click Confirm

Note: Be sure to have the latest version of the software running order to have your account validation work. You must download AutoCAD before installing a specialized application eg: AutoCad Electrical

What are some popular Autodesk products?

Below are some Autodesk products that students often need for their classes and their system requirements:

AutoCAD:

AutoCAD is a commercial computer-aided design and drafting (CAD) software application developed and marketed by Autodesk. Its purpose is to allow architects, designers, and other engineering professionals to create, edit, or review 2D or 3D design files.

Civil 3D:

Civil 3D is an Autodesk product that was originally based on AutoCAD. It has been separated into its own program; it is used for civil infrastructure design as well as documentation for transportation, land development, and water and wastewater projects.

Revit:

Revit is an industry-leading Building Information Modeling (BIM) software developed and marketed by Autodesk. Its purpose is to allow architects, designers, builders, and other construction professionals to work together on different aspects of a shared project collaboratively.

Fusion 360:

Fusion 360 is a cloud-based computer-aided design (CAD) program that is typically used for consumer product design. It follows a parametric modelling workflow. Access to it is included in the Autodesk Education License, as well as a perpetual, free license for personal or small business use.

How do I download and install Autodesk products?

Step 1: Navigate to the Autodesk Education Hub and sign-in to your Autodesk Account

Step 2: Find the application (ie. AutoCAD)

Click on "Get product", then select the Operating System and version and click "INSTALL"

After the download completes, run it. You will receive a Windows UAC prompt. Click "Yes"

Step 3: Select where to install

AutoCAD will take a moment to prepare for installation, afterwards the installer would launch and you will be prompted to choose a location to install.

How do I install AutoCAD Electrical or other specialized toolsets?

In order to install and use AutoCAD Electrical and/or other specialized toolset for AutoCAD, you will need to have AutoCAD already installed on your computer. Follow the steps above to install AutoCAD if you have not done so already

If you have installed AutoCAD using the steps above, you can use the following guide to install AutoCAD Electrical and/or other specialized toolset

Step 1: Go to the Autodesk Manage Page

Alternatively, Log in to your Autodesk account, then click on your profile icon and select "Products and Services"

Step 2: Click "All Products and Services" from the menu

Click on "Get product", then select the Operating System and version and click "INSTALL"

Step 3: Select the tool and version you need

Once a tool is selected, choose a version, operating system, and language to download. Click "Install".

Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the installation
