Why can't I join a Zoom breakout room?

Breakout rooms are managed by the meeting host, where they can either place meeting participants into a breakout room or allow for Self-Directed Breakout Rooms where you are able to join a room of your choice.

In order to use Self-Directed Breakout Rooms you will need to be using the Zoom Desktop Client with a version of 5.3.0 or newer. Self-Directed Breakout Rooms are not available in browser-based Zoom sessions.

Timeout errors when being placed in breakout rooms or attempting to join self-directed breakout rooms are due to poor network connection and Zoom will prioritize the main meeting over the breakout room.
